Staff Training 

Annual Staff Training (Total 20 hours) - Price $299 Per Person

Initial Training for Direct Care Staff (Total 40 hours) – Price $485 Per Person

20 initial hours, which must be completed before working independently with residents, with the total hours to include:

  • 6 hrs. of training on dementia care
  • 4 hrs. of training on postural supports, restricted health conditions, and hospice care
  • 10 hrs. of Licensee’s discretion, which I have identified as follows:
    • Assisting with Activities of Daily Living/Personal care, including hands-on training (3 hours)
    • Physical limitations and needs of the elderly, including psychosocial needs of the elderly (2 hours)
    • Policies and procedures regarding medications, including antipsychotic and psychotropic medications (2 hours)
    • Cultural competency and sensitivity in issues related to the underserved, aging, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community (1 hour)
    • Resident Rights (1 hour)
    • Building and fire safety and appropriate response to emergency, including hands-on training (1 hour)

20 remaining hours, which must be completed within the first four weeks of employment, with the total required hours to include:

  • 6 hrs. of training in dementia care
  • 14 hour of training Licensee’s discretion

Initial Medication Training (10 hours)

10 hours of initial training that consists of:

  • 6 hours of hands-on shadow training, to be completed before assisting residents with self-administration of medication
  • 4 hours of other training or instruction per HSC 1569.69(f), to be completed within the first 2 weeks of employment.

Annual Training for Direct Care Staff

  • Training requirements shall also include an additional 20 hours annually, eight hours of which shall be dementia care and four hours of which shall be specific to postural supports, restricted health conditions and hospice care.
  • This training shall be administered on the job, or in a classroom setting or both and may include online training

The training shall include, but not be limited to all of the following:

  1. Physical limitations and needs of the elderly
  2. Importance and techniques for personal care services.
  3. Resident’s rights.
  4. Policies and procedures regarding medications.
  5. Psychosocial needs of the elderly
  6. Dementia care, including the use and misuse of antipsychotics, the interaction of drugs commonly used by the elderly and the adverse effects of psychotropic drugs for use in controlling the behavior of persons with dementia.
  7. he special needs of persons with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, including nonpharmacologic, person-centered approaches to dementia care
  8. Cultural competency and sensitivity in issues relating to the underserved, aging, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community

  2. Skin Care
  3. Communication Techniques
  4. Therapeutic Activities
  5. Behavioral Changes, Behavioral Modifications
  6. Activities for Dementia Residents; Interaction and Socialization
  7. Use and Misuse of Medications for Dementia Residents
  8. Psycho-social Needs
  9. Recognizing Elder Abuse and Neglect in Care of Persons with Dementia
  10. Review of Resident’s Rights as related to Care of Persons with Dementia
  11. Assessments/Appraisals and Re Appraisals
  12. Universal Precautions
  13. Theft and Loss Policy
  14. Acceptance and Retention of RCFE Residents
  15. Duties and Responsibilities of Administrator and Staff
  16. Incontinent Care Program

All sessions are taught at our facility. We include handouts for the employees. In addition, each employee receives a signed certificate of completion from the instructor.
